Vaginoplasty Q & A

What is vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that tightens the walls and the opening of your vagina, adding firmness and tone. By tightening the vaginal tissues, this procedure can increase sexual pleasure, interest in sex, and overall quality of life.

As a highly trained urogynecologic surgeon, Dr. Farnam offers all the most advanced procedures for enhancing your intimate life. He listens closely to your needs and recommends the best course of treatment for you. This may include vaginoplasty, labiaplasty, or non-surgical laser vaginal tightening.

Why would I want a vaginoplasty?

Millions of women choose to undergo vaginoplasty surgery because vaginal laxity, or looseness, interferes with their romantic lives and negatively affects self-esteem. Childbirth, hormonal imbalance, and injuries to the vagina are all common causes of vaginal laxity.

Weakened vaginal tissues can make sex unpleasant or even painful. This loss of sexual pleasure can have a detrimental effect on self-confidence and create tension in romantic relationships.

Vaginoplasty offers you the opportunity to reclaim your femininity by restoring sexual pleasure and intimacy. If you’re nervous about surgery and only have moderate vaginal laxity, Dr. Farnam may recommend non-surgical laser tightening with FemiLift instead of vaginoplasty.

What should I expect from a vaginoplasty procedure?

First, Dr. Farnam performs a thorough physical exam and listens to you describe your symptoms, concerns, and desired outcome. Then, he creates a customized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Dr. Farnam performs vaginoplasty while you’re under general anesthesia. He removes a wedge-shaped piece of excess tissue from the vagina and tightens the tissue with strong sutures. The entire procedure takes about one or two hours, depending on your needs.

Afterward, you should be able to go home the same day. You should plan to take about a week off from work to rest and recover. It’s common to experience swelling, discomfort, and vaginal bleeding while your body heals. Full recovery can take six to eight weeks.

You should avoid strenuous activity and sexual intercourse during your recovery period. Dr. Farnam lets you know when it’s safe to resume sex and regular activities.
