Richard Farnam, MD

Urogynecology Specialist

Richard Farnam, MD is a devoted advocate of women’s health, El Paso community leader, and compassionate provider. He is double board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology). Dr. Farnam completed his residency training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and gained extensive experience in pelvic reconstructive surgery during his AAGL fellowship in New York. He became a member of the first class of board certified urogynecologists in 2013.

Dr. Farnam is one of the nation’s top robotic surgical educators. He established a Robotic Epicenter training facility in El Paso, Texas. Surgeons from around the world travel to observe his team’s surgical excellence program. Every year hundreds of physicians, and residents attend his speaking and training events and conferences. Dr. Farnam has performed Live Telesurgery viewed by thousands of participants during the 2014 AAGL Hysterectomy Summit. He developed products and invented devices used in the urogynecologic surgery marketplace. He has served as chairman and board member for AAGL committees. AAGL is the world’s largest gynecology organization. During his tenure, he helped produce national policy guidelines for robotic surgery. He has also sat on two of our local hospital governing boards. Dr. Farnam is very active on social media health education platforms, and enjoys traveling with his wife Nanda and their four children.

Dr. Farnam is Urogynecology director for El Paso’s community OBGYN residency program and clinical assistant professor at Texas Tech University and Burrell Collage of Medicine. He is one of the top benign GYN surgeons in America having performed over 2700 robotic surgeries. He is the world’s leading expert on robotic ureter visualization and is the principal investigator for the first human trials of IS-001 fluorescence dye. His patients travel from over thirty-eight states and many foreign countries for consultation and surgery. Dr. Farnam is a reviewer for the Journal of minimally invasive gynecology and the Journal of Urology. He has also published on robotics in multiple peer-reviewed journals. His accolades include being a twelve time ‘Patient’s Choice’ award winner and being chosen by his peers to the annual Super Doctors list for seven consecutive years.

Board Certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Urogynecology

Dr. Asgharian is board certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Urogynecology (Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery). He has advanced training and experience in urogynecology and minimally invasive surgery and has been practicing in El Paso since 2002.

In 2013, the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology offered a vigorous testing and credentialing process to evaluate the experience, training, expertise of select gynecologists with experience in and training in urogynecology and provide them recognition and certification of this expertise. As such, Dr. Asgharian became one of the first surgeons in the country with this official board certification of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.

Much of his practice in these years has been concentrated on treating women with pelvic disorders, incontinence, overactive bladder, minimally invasive surgery which includes both robotic and laparoscopic surgery. Indeed, he developed a national reputation in Robotic Surgery and has trained physicians at a national level in Robotic Surgery. During his years of practice, he has performed thousands of incontinence surgeries, robotic surgeries, laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgeries, and surgeries for pelvic prolapse. Additionally, he has taken care of more rare and advanced urogynecological conditions such as fistulas, fecal incontinence, diverticuli, and mesh complications. He has trained both gynecologists and urologists locally and on a national level in advanced gynecological surgery, surgical treatment of incontinence and pelvic prolapse. In addition, he has served as surgical industry consultant and advanced trainer/preceptor for companies of medical devices.

Patricia Castro, AGACNP

Nurse Practitioner

Patricia Castro is nationally board certified as an Adult Gerontological Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Science in Nursing at the University of Texas at El Paso in 2010 and 2019. She is a member if the American Nurses Association (ANA). During her nine years as a registered nurse she practiced is several of El Paso’s locals hospitals where she obtained experience in dialysis, pediatrics, cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, urology, gastroenterology, emergency care, step down units, and intensive care units. Before joining Texas Urogynecology she was part of the Covid 19 registered nurses serving the El Paso Community. She now serves the community in providing care for several urogynecology related conditions including: screening women with prolapse, urinary incontinence, recurrent urinary tract infections, menopause, endometriosis, infertility, fibroids, menstrual irregularities, vulvar and vaginal disorders, interstitial cystitis, routine gynecologic care, contraceptive management, and screening for those women who are candidates for surgery. Her goal is to provide meticulous yet compassionate care while treating patients as her own family. She is fluent in both English and Spanish. She balances her work with spending her time off with her husband and 3 children.


Providing care for several urogynecology related conditions including: screening women with prolapse, urinary incontinence, recurrent urinary tract infections, menopause, endometriosis, infertility, fibroids, menstrual irregularities, vulvar and vaginal disorders, interstitial cystitis, routine gynecologic care, contraceptive management, and screening for those women who are candidates for surgery.

Nurse Practitioner - Urogynecology

Rebecca Lopez is a board-certified family nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is an El Paso native who is passionate about providing patients with comprehensive, patient centered care. Rebecca is dedicated to empowering her patients and their family members with knowledge that will help preserve their health and prevent disease. As a native El Pasoan, she takes great pride in providing compassionate, quality health care for her community.

Outside the office, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, hiking, travelling and baking.
